Eraser is an advanced security tool, that lets you completely delete data from your hard drive, overwriting several times, following determined patterns.

With Eraser you can drag files to the deleter, or program the overwriting in the unoccupied disc space. The patterns it uses to overwrite come from an article written by Peter Gutmann: Secure Deletion of Data from Magnetic and Solid-State Memory. Eraser uses them to effectively eliminate magnetic traces that could stay on your hard drive. Other methods that Eraser uses are the definition found in the operations manual of the National Industries Security Programs of the US Dep`t of Defense, and also an overwriting method for pseudorandom data. Eraser also includes the option for the actual user to define the overwriting method.
